‘Fill the Plate’ campaign aims to help Saskatoon’s Friendship Inn

Global News, Dec 01, 2015 - SASKATOON – The Saskatoon Friendship Inn is asking for donations as the holiday season draws near. The community centre kicked off its third annual “Fill the Plate” campaign Tuesday morning.

Organizers are trying to raise $5,000 during each day of the campaign, which is the cost of feeding visitors to the Inn each day.

PotashCorp is also sponsoring the event and will be matching all donations up to $100,000.

“It’s heartwarming at Christmas time when you know that there’s families that are going without and that’s what we’re serving them, exactly what we would want to be having at our own homes,” said Sandra Stack, the executive director of the Inn.

“We’ll have turkey dinner on Christmas Day, we’ll have new presents for the children and we’ll just gather the family and celebrate the Christmas season together.”

Members of the community are being asked to come forward, donate, and volunteer.

The Friendship Inn provides more than 1,000 meals per day to the homeless and needy.
