Sask. building permit values fall in July

By David Giles, Global News September 9, 2013 - Ottawa - The value of building permits issued in Saskatchewan during July were down. Statistics Canada reported on Monday the overall value of permits issued to contractors was $273.4 million, down 11.1 per cent from June.

On a yearly basis, the value was up 10.7 per cent from July 2012.

The value of both residential and non-residential permits were down.

On the residential side, $149.7 million in permits were issued in July, down 7.5 per cent from the previous month but up 4.6 per cent from a year ago.

Non-residential permits fell 15.1 per cent to $123.6 million. On a yearly basis, permit values were up 19.0 per cent.

Overall in Saskatoon, permits were valued at $124.3 million, a decrease of 2.7 per cent from June, but up 34.5 per cent from one year ago.

Nationally, permit values were up 20.7 per cent to $8 billion.
