Global News, April 10, 2016 - Housing starts in March were down in the Saskatoon census metropolitan area (CMA), according to preliminary numbers released by the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The recent report shows construction started on 84 less units compared to the same month one year prior.
Construction on 93 units began in March 2016 compared to 177 units in March 2015. Broken down, 50 multi-family units and 43 single-detached homes were started last month.
So far this year, there have been 366 total starts in the Saskatoon CMA compared to 579 at the same time in 2015.
Saskatchewan’s total urban starts were at 669 by the end of March, down from 903 in 2015.
CMHC’s preliminary housing starts for Canada last month were at 12,887.
