CBC News, March 3, 2014 - The City of Saskatoon believes it's hit a population milestone of quarter of a million people. Statistics Canada data from last July said there were 248,293 people living in the city.
Using that data and applying the suggested growth rate of 3 per cent, the city of Saskatoon estimates that as of March 1, 2014, the population was approximately 253, 000.
"This is an exciting milestone for Saskatoon," planning and development director Alan Wallace said in a release. "Based on the information from Statistics Canada, we have increased by a rate of 40.4 per thousand, which hasn't been achieved by any other census metropolitan in more than 15 years."
The projected numbers for people living in and around Saskatoon are even higher. Using the same calculation, Saskatoon city administration believes its census metropolitan area hit 298,000.
